Some classes collect and observe specimens which are then returned to nature, and some classes work on projects. Frequently there are trail activities and games such as scavenger hunts, observing nature, and collecting data. Exploration and observation are exciting and the daily nature hikes are a favorite of many students. ![]() So, if you selected a five second portion of a video, you'll create a five second GIF. So, how do I choose a good frame count and delay?īefore choosing, I'll make the assumption that you want the duration of your GIF to equal the duration of your clip. Frame Delay The length of time that each of the frames will be displayed in the GIF. What are the frame count and frame delay settings? Frame Count The number of frames between the start and end times that GIF Brewery will extract from your video. Video can be difficult to work with in AppSheet (at least at the current moment) but I have found gifs to work quite well.A very important aspect of GIF creation with GIF Brewery is perfecting your frame count / delay choice. To get a feel for how gifs work in AppSheet you could just put the URL for my gif in an image column in an app of yours and then see how it looks on different devices. Here's the url for my gif that I made following Koichi's steps:Īnd here's what it looks like in the detail view of my app. I'm sorry to say, though, that even on Chrome I can't seem to get a direct to Koichi's comment, so here's a screenshot: Now, the only thing left is to upload your gif to your Google drive account, make it public and then make a URL that will work in AppSheet. ![]() That's it! If you have a Mac and don't mind downloading Gif Brewery 3, you should be able to do this quite easily (in less time than it's taking me to write this, in fact ). And the loop delay was 3500 because I like to have a pause of a little over 3 seconds before the slideshow repeats automatically. ![]() The frame delay was 1500 because I like to have about a second and a half between images in my little slideshows. ![]() The frame count was 8 because I had 8 screenshots. Including my duplicated screenshots, I had 8 images in my "movie." So, I set the "settings" as follows: I had to pay for it (I've forgotten how much now) but I've found it to be more than worth it. Gif Brewery 3 is the only app in this process that didn't come with my Mac. You can adjust the speed at the next step. If you play the movie, it will be so fast as to be unusable - but don't worry. Open QuickTime, then File -> Open Image Sequence to import you images and then save them as a movie. Just open this png in Preview, copy the image, paste it into the screenshot and the adjust the size and position to your liking. I hope you can download it from this page to use in your gifs. I've made the following finger image with a transparent background: If you have images that you want to use more that once (that is, want to add a finger image to or want to use twice or more for timing), you can just use option drag to copy it. To make the gif, it's easiest if you take your screenshots in order. Instead of adjusting the size of the screenshot, I adjust the zoom of the browser app image I am shooting to get the appropriate size in my screenshot window. From then on, all of my Shift Command 5 screenshots will be 600 x 337. ![]() I have found that I like the dimensions of my gifs to be 600 x 337 (about a 16:9 ratio) so I hit Shift Command 5, adjust the dimension to 600 x 337 and take one meaningless shot. This allows me to take shots of consistent dimensions. The screenshot type I like to use on my Mac is Shift Command 5. And some screenshots were duplicated for timing purposes. Actually, the initial number is even smaller because some of the screenshots were copied and then the transparent finger was added. The gif you see is made up of just 8 screenshots. I'm sure something similar can be done on Windows but you'll have to figure that our for yourself. I made it on a Mac so I'll describe the exact software I used. It was remarkably easy to make so I thought I'd explain how I did it. The gif is displayed in an image column and is coupled with text that describes a concrete situation in which sorting in this way can be useful in this particular app. The file is tiny, only about 100 KB, so there's no concern about it weighing down the performance of your app. I just made this little gif to show my users how to use the sort function in my app: ![]() ![]() ![]() POV: What are the effects of poverty on daily life? My film gave me, and I hope the audience as well, an opportunity to vicariously experience their struggles, their frustrations, their setbacks and their accomplishments. And we all encounter these folks every day. And that impact is something we all experience everyday.įor example, when I walked into the building I didn't really give much thought to the security guard, or when I bought lunch today, I didn't give much thought to the cashier who was checking me out. What Waging a Living is really about is the impact that those forces are having on low-wage workers today. My film is not really about all of the reasons the situation has changed over time: it's not about globalization it's not about the transition from a manufacturing-based economy to a service-based economy it's not about the diminished power of labor unions today. ![]() But I want to show that it's different for folks on the bottom of that income ladder, and in many ways the situation now is different than it was years ago. Another reason this is such a difficult topic is because we all are struggling in our own ways to make a living, so we may not have that much sympathy for others when we have our own day-to-day struggles making ends meet. I think one of the reasons is that we have difficulty accepting that people can work full time and still not get ahead, can still be unable to support their families. Weisberg: There are probably a lot of reasons that people aren't aware of how prevalent the problems of the working poor are. Barbara works as a recreational therapist, earning $8.25 per hour. ![]() POV: What does it mean for someone to be one of the "working poor"?īarbara Brooks of Freeport, New York. I came of age in the 60s when that kind of idealism was so prevalent, and I've managed to hold on to some of it. So part of my motivation for making these kinds of films is to have a creative outlet, but another part of my motivation is the fact that the journalist and policy wonk in me wants to try to make a difference and fix our broken world. Why do I work on those kind of films? In large measure because I've had opportunities that aren't universally available, and I feel a sense of obligation to try to examine the barriers that prevent other people from taking advantage of the kind of opportunities that were made available to me. Most of the films that I have made have been about people grappling with problems associated with poverty. When Waging a Living airs, it will mark 30 years since I went to work at WNET in New York as a producer of documentaries for public television. So I wanted to devote our energies to looking at the lives of the so-called working poor, who were stuck in these low wage jobs and couldn't support their families. There were too many barriers thwarting their ability to advance in the workforce and pull their families out of poverty. I bought into this mythology for a long time, until - in the course of making many other films for PBS - I met lots of folks for whom this American dream was exactly that, just a dream. Roger Weisberg: Like most Americans, I grew up with the idea that hard work invariably leads to success. I like it for concealing redness and blemishes on my face, but I downright HATE it for the under eye area. Ok, so it’s obvious that I have mixed feelings about this product. I don’t see the usual texture in my skin nearly as much as I do with some of my other concealers – in photographs, that is – if you look up close you can see it settle into and almost accentuate my pores, which I didn’t really love.Īs you can see it photographs well, blurring imperfections, however up close it seemed to just sit on top of the skin And as you may have guessed from the name, it does photograph quite nicely. I have no shine in those areas, which is unusual for me, so I’m confident that this could last all day with no touchups. Again it dried to a powdery, satin-matte finish, and while I did set it with a powder just as I did with my under eye area, I haven’t seen it budge yet. I didn’t have to build it up, as I was content with the coverage I got from one application. Now I will say it covers pretty well, a solid medium coverage with the first application. I used it in the center of my forehead, down the bridge of my nose, on the sides of my nose, and on some blemish marks on either side of my chin. Since it obviously wasn’t working well for me with the sponge under my eyes, I decided to forego that method of application and jump right to the brush when it came to concealing other areas of my face. Not the best photo, but you can still see my dark circles and lots of creasing, even after setting with powder. Additionally, with either method of application, I noticed that it settled in to my fine lines immediately, but as long as I dabbed over it with either my finger or a damp sponge and immediately set it with a translucent loose powder, it seemed to stay put. I was sure to moisturize before application so I’m not sure what went wrong here. Like I had flesh colored scales under my eyes. But along with that came a certain dryness. Flawless Concealer Brush to be exact) I noticed I got much fuller coverage, which I anticipated. When I blended it out with a concealer brush (my e.l.f. It sheered it out, as it is meant to do, but it’s almost like it soaked up too much, which I’ve never had happen with a damp sponge. With the sponge, it seemed to blend just ok, but you could clearly see where the sponge deposited a harsher line of concealer. I blended it out on one side with a damp sponge (the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge to be precise), and the other side with a concealer brush. On the under eye area, I applied it in a V shape, as if I were highlighting – down the side of my nose, under the lower lash line, and blended outward and upward. So I wanted to put this to the test for both my under eye area and blemishes/redness/acne scarring. It dries down to an almost powdery, satin-matte finish, and sets rather quickly. It’s quite pigmented, with roughly medium to full coverage. I, personally, don’t like to have to keep dipping my applicator back in the tube to get enough product to cover my under eye area, but if you’re using this to cover blemishes, you could probably get enough product with just one “dip”.Īs stated above, this is a lightweight, liquid concealer. ![]() The applicator itself doesn’t dispense much product, with can be a pro or con depending on your needs. This concealer comes in your standard clear tube with a black top, and a doe foot applicator. This concealer comes in 11 shades, including three corrector shades. This lightweight cover-up obscures imperfections discoloration and under eye circles without ever looking cakey or obvious. We’ll get to the whole review part in just a minute, but here’s what NYX has to say about this product on their website : Like, ran home, ripped open the tube and slapped it all over my face excited. This concealer is pretty widely talked about all over YouTube and the internet, so once I decided to jump in and try it, I was super excited. I’ve been on the fence for quite some time about trying this, but I was in ULTA the other night and it was on sale so I figured “now is as good a time as any!” They were buy one, get one 50% off, so of course I grabbed two, one in Porcelain, and one in Fair, because I wasn’t sure which shade would match me better and I figured whichever one was too light I could just use to highlight with. It was the most requested song on FM radio stations in the United States in the 1970s, despite never having been commercially released as a single there. The final section is an uptempo hard rock arrangement highlighted by Page's intricate guitar solo (considered by many to be one of the greatest ever) accompanying Plant's vocals that end with the plaintive a cappella line: "And she's buying a stairway to heaven." "Stairway to Heaven" was voted number three in 2000 by VH1 on its list of the 100 Greatest Rock Songs, and was placed at number 31 on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
